The Role of a Quantity Surveyor !

A Quantity Surveyor is an essential professional dedicated to evaluating the costs associated with building or rehabilitating structures. Straddling the line between technical expertise and economic analysis, they provide comprehensive cost assessments for construction or renovation projects, ensuring that the allocated budget is adhered to.

In the building sector, the Quantity Surveyor collaborates closely with architects and project owners, playing a pivotal role in the financial planning of projects. Their mission is to assess the costs of new constructions, rehabilitations, or civil engineering works. This versatile profession combines fieldwork with meticulous office tasks to create and update cost estimates.

Using a thorough analysis of technical documentation and modeling tools, the Quantity Surveyor generates preliminary estimates and project quotes early on, followed by detailed price studies once the bidding process begins. They evaluate the quantity and quality of materials required for each phase (such as structural work, carpentry, plastering, painting, windows, etc.), negotiate with suppliers, and prepare quotes. They also define organizational methods, necessary financial and human resources, and develop a project timeline. All of these elements allow them to establish a robust budget forecast and draft a technical specifications documents.
